Regional Solar PV Thermal Inspection

Project Overview

Terra Drone Arabia successfully managed a high-precision drone data acquisition mission for a massive solar facility in the Riyadh Region. The primary goal was to provide specialized thermal inspection services to enhance operational efficiency.

The project covered an expansive area of 5 square kilometers of solar PV installations. Our team delivered a complete end-to-end solution by merging hardware development with advanced service expertise.

Technical Expertise & Equipment

The mission utilized the DJI M350 RTK drone, which is valued for its multiple failsafe mechanisms and high reliability. This aircraft was equipped with the Zenmuse H20T payload to capture high-resolution thermal and RGB data.

We achieved a Thermal GSD of 2.9 cm/pixel while flying at an altitude of 32.6 meters using terrain-following technology. The flight parameters included an 80% overlap and 55% sidelap to ensure comprehensive data coverage.

Key Responsibilities & Operations

Our team managed the entire regulatory process, securing all necessary flight permits from GACA and GASGI. We also conducted a pre-field site assessment to determine the most efficient flight paths and identify potential challenges.

The data acquisition phase was executed by two specialized teams over a duration of 10 operational days. Flights were strictly limited to the hours between 9 AM and 3 PM to maintain irradiance levels above 750 w/m2.

Data Integrity & Deliverables

Daily data quality checks were performed at the end of each flight day to guarantee data integrity. This process ensured that all captured thermal imagery met the required 3 cm GSD resolution standards.

Once field work was complete, the raw data underwent post-acquisition processing into standardized formats. Final project results were delivered to the stakeholder via a secure web link and a physical USB drive.
