Measuring inventory at a massive industrial site is a major headache for management. Traditionally, workers have to walk across dangerous terrain and climb over large material piles to take measurements.<\/span><\/p>\n

This process is slow, puts staff at risk, and often results in “best guess” numbers rather than exact data. To manage an annual inventory correctly, the facility needed a way to get precise volumes quickly and safely.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Solution<\/b><\/h2>\n

The solution was to use drone photogrammetry to map the entire area. Instead of measuring points on the ground one by one, a drone flies overhead and takes thousands of high-resolution, overlapping photos.<\/span><\/p>\n

To ensure these photos were perfectly accurate, the team used Ground Control Points (GCPs).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These are physical markers placed on the ground and measured with professional-grade GPS tools. These markers act as “anchors” that tie the drone\u2019s photos to real-world coordinates.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 9-Day Workflow<\/b><\/h2>\n

The project followed a strict schedule to ensure a fast turnaround:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Day 1:<\/b> Moving the team and specialized equipment to the site.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Days 2\u20133:<\/b> Installing and measuring ground markers to set the “accuracy anchors”.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Day 3:<\/b> The drone flight itself, scanning the area from multiple angles.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Days 4\u20136:<\/b> Processing the data. Powerful software stitches the photos together and removes “noise”\u2014like moving vehicles or buildings\u2014to see the true shape of the material piles.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Final Day:<\/b> Delivering the final reports and 3D maps to the management team.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The drone survey delivered a level of detail that manual methods cannot match:<\/span><\/p>\n

      By moving from manual measurements to a drone-based system, the facility gained three major advantages:<\/span><\/p>\n
